President Bola Tinubu has honored the late Dr. Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s founding president, describing him as a warrior who inspired African liberation.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu spoke at the state burial held at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek, Namibia, where he joined other African leaders to pay their last respects.

Dr. Nujoma, who led Namibia to independence, passed away on February 8 at the age of 95. Tinubu praised him as a hero who defied oppression and played a key role in the continent’s struggle for freedom.

“We have not come to this sacred ground to bury a man. We have come to enshrine a legacy,” Tinubu stated, adding that Nujoma’s sacrifices for Namibia’s independence and governance would be remembered forever.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s unwavering support during Namibia’s liberation struggle, reaffirming the strong historical ties between the two nations. “When the world turned its back, we stood. Your struggle was our struggle,” Tinubu emphasized.

Tinubu assured Namibia of Nigeria’s continued solidarity, declaring that Africa has not lost a man, but gained a legend.

The burial was attended by leaders from South Africa, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Ghana, and other dignitaries, marking a moment of unity in honoring Nujoma’s legacy.
