In an unexpected development, police escorts assigned to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, as well as those responsible for securing the Assembly complex, have been withdrawn with immediate effect.

This sudden move has left both the Speaker and the legislative building without security protection, raising concerns about their safety.

Confirming the situation, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Mr. Victor Ganzallo, expressed alarm over the abrupt withdrawal of security personnel, describing it as an unsettling turn of events.

“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo stated.

He further emphasized the gravity of the situation, warning that the Speaker is now “vulnerable and open to attack,” and stressing the need for an urgent resolution to prevent potential security threats.

The reason behind the withdrawal remains unclear, as neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement regarding the decision. The lack of explanation has fueled speculation and concern over the possible motives behind the action.

The removal of security raises serious questions about the safety of government officials and the overall security of the Lagos Assembly premises. Given recent tensions between the Department of State Services (DSS) and Assembly staff members, there are fears that this development could be linked to ongoing disputes between security agencies and the legislative body.
