Siminalayi Fubara has stated that his calm and non-confrontational approach during the political upheaval in Rivers State was intentional and carefully calculated.

Speaking on Friday night in Lagos while receiving the Man of the Year 2025 award from New Telegraph, the governor explained that what some have perceived as weakness was a deliberate choice aimed at preserving peace and safeguarding broader national interests.

“I chose for a lot of reasons to be weak. Weak because I want peace. Weak because I need to also protect those things that are dear not just to me but to our dear nation,” Fubara said during the ceremony.

‘Special Pain’ and a Call for Steadfastness

Addressing guests at the event, the governor acknowledged that his supporters had borne what he termed “special pain” for standing by him during the ongoing political tension in the state.

“Today, for me, is a very special day, and also special for everyone who has believed in me. And I know for believing in me, you have a share of special pain,” he said.

Fubara described the perceived weakness as a virtue that would eventually yield positive outcomes and urged his supporters not to waver in their conviction.

“Continue to believe in what you believe in. Weakness is a virtue. It pays at the right time,” he added.

Award Presentation and Dedication

The award was presented by veteran journalist and former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba. He was joined by the Chairman of the Board of New Telegraph, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.

Fubara mounted the stage accompanied by elders from Rivers State and immediate past members of the State Executive Council, drawing enthusiastic applause from attendees.

The Rivers governor dedicated the recognition to God, his family, and the people of Rivers State. He also acknowledged his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, crediting him for identifying and supporting his political rise.
