In a bid to refine Nigeria’s tax system and bolster economic sustainability, the House of Representatives has announced a public hearing on four critical Tax Reform Bills currently under review at the Committee Stage. Scheduled from Wednesday, February 26, to Friday, February 28, 2025, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, the hearing will be held daily at 12:00 noon in Conference Halls 028 and 231 of the House’s New Building.

According to a statement by House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., the hearing aims to bring together key stakeholders—including government agencies, business leaders, tax experts, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations—to foster robust discussions and gather recommendations. The goal is to ensure that the tax regime is both fair and efficient while aligning with global best practices.

Recognizing the transformative potential of these reforms, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, has set up a Special Committee to oversee the legislative process. Chaired by Rep. James Faleke, this committee comprises members from the House Committee on Finance along with co-opted lawmakers from every state of the Federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and the six geopolitical zones, ensuring inclusive representation and thorough deliberation.

The House is urging all stakeholders to actively engage in the public hearing as it seeks to craft reforms that not only support economic growth and stability but also modernize Nigeria’s fiscal landscape for the future.
