President Bola Tinubu experienced a brief stumble on Tuesday during a ceremonial march-past held to welcome him at the parade ground in Türkiye.

The moment occurred as the Nigerian leader stepped forward to inspect the guard of honour, briefly drawing attention before the event proceeded smoothly without any interruption.

The President is in Türkiye as part of a state visit focused on reinforcing the enduring diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye, while also identifying fresh avenues of collaboration to strengthen a mutually beneficial partnership between both nations.

As part of the visit, Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, covering areas such as trade, security, investment, and regional cooperation.

The official programme will also include the signing of several memoranda of understanding between Nigeria and Türkiye, alongside other top-level diplomatic engagements.

In addition, a business forum is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the visit, bringing together Nigerian and Turkish investors to explore opportunities for shared economic growth.

Senior Nigerian officials who welcomed the President at his hotel include the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd).

What you should know

President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Türkiye is part of Nigeria’s broader foreign policy drive to strengthen strategic partnerships beyond Africa.

Despite a brief stumble during a ceremonial reception, the visit remains focused on high-level engagements aimed at boosting trade, investment, security cooperation, and economic ties between both countries.

The signing of memoranda of understanding and the planned business forum highlight efforts to translate diplomatic relations into tangible economic and development gains for Nigeria and Türkiye.
