Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has extended warm congratulations to General Christopher Musa on his emergence as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, expressing full faith in his professionalism and commitment to confronting the nation’s growing security concerns.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the governor emphasized that General Musa’s solid military background, extensive field experience, and steadfast loyalty to peace and democratic principles clearly demonstrate his preparedness for the national assignment ahead.

Governor Idris also praised General Musa for previously helping to stop armed bandits from gaining a foothold in Kebbi State, alongside his constant moral encouragement to security operatives working across the region. He noted that the officer’s timely counsel and backing have motivated the Kebbi State Government to continue providing both logistical and financial assistance to various security units, contributions that have strengthened the fight against armed groups.
He prayed for divine support and guidance as the new minister steps into his duties, urging President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to furnish General Musa with the support needed for him to succeed. Governor Idris reaffirmed that the people and government of Kebbi State would keep offering prayers for the minister’s achievements and for a decisive end to banditry.
General Musa, a retired top-ranking officer of the Nigerian Army, previously served as the country’s 18th Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025 and was honoured with the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012. His nomination as Minister of Defence received Senate approval on December 3, 2025.

The governor expressed optimism that Nigerians will soon notice a stronger push in the fight against terrorists and other violent groups, convinced that General Musa’s leadership will intensify national security efforts. He concluded by offering his best wishes, stating, “Accept my congratulations,” while reiterating his government’s solid support for the ongoing battle against banditry and insurgency nationwide.
