The Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish a Diaspora City, a tourism and investment hub aimed at reconnecting Nigerians abroad with their roots. The initiative was announced on Monday by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, during the launch of the Motherland 2025 initiative in Abuja.

Musawa highlighted that the initiative is not just about tourism but also about fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development. She emphasized the government’s vision of transforming the creative and tourism industries into major drivers of economic prosperity for Nigerians.

“Our vision extends beyond attracting global visitors; it is about ensuring that the creative and tourism sectors serve as critical tools to improve the lives of the Nigerian people,” Musawa stated.

Describing Motherland 2025 as more than a festival, the minister noted that it would serve as a platform to reaffirm Nigeria’s role as a key hub for Black and African culture, commerce, and community engagement.

“This year, we open our doors to the global diaspora, inviting them to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, explore investment opportunities, and witness the remarkable transformation unfolding across our nation,” she said.

The festival will feature state pavilions, exhibitions, cultural showcases, and business forums to highlight Nigeria’s innovation, economic potential, and cultural heritage across all 36 states and the FCT. Additionally, the Motherland Ambassador Awards will honor outstanding diaspora members who have made significant contributions in various fields.

As part of the long-term plan, the government will develop Diaspora City, a dedicated hub where Nigerians abroad can invest, reconnect, and establish roots seamlessly.

Also speaking at the event, Chidinma Nwakwo, Managing Director of Discover Motherland Africa, described the launch as a transformative movement that not only strengthens cultural identity but also creates investment opportunities for the diaspora.
