Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has appealed to residents across the state to observe a day of fasting and prayers on Monday, 24th November 2025, regardless of their religious background.

His call comes in response to recurring assaults and killings carried out by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.

Speaking during a live broadcast, Zulum reflected on the prolonged turmoil that has gripped the state, noting that “for the past 15 years, Borno State has been in the global spotlight owing to the Boko Haram insurgency.” He explained that the crisis has deeply scarred every part of society, forcing millions from their homes across all 27 local government areas and interrupting the economic activities that sustain families and communities.

The governor acknowledged that although the state had enjoyed a period of relative calm over the last two years, recent developments have brought unsettling and tragic incidents. He urged residents to direct their focus to spiritual intervention, seeking divine protection against forces intent on disrupting peace and stability.

Addressing citizens, he said, “Dear Citizens of Borno State, I address you today not just as your Governor, but as a fellow citizen, with a profound sense of patriotism and with every confidence, who shares in your anxieties, hopes, and desire for a peaceful and prosperous Borno, that the future of our dear state is brighter than ever.”

He reiterated that despite the destruction left by insurgents, Borno was able to withstand the toughest periods through unity, collective resolve, and support for the military and security agencies. These efforts, he said, pushed back the groups aiming to destabilize Borno, the North-East, and the wider country.

Zulum highlighted that the return of relative calm in recent years made way for a positive agricultural season. Farmers were able to grow crops expected to sustain communities for the next year or two. He added that the government is still committed to supplying farming materials and agro-chemicals to enable continuous farming and promote food security.

While assuring that Borno has maintained a measurable degree of stability, he emphasized that recent attacks, alongside tensions unfolding nationally and globally, warrant deep concern. He also commended residents for their determination and their unwavering role in supporting security efforts through prayers, fasting, and cooperation with the military, Civilian JTF, hunters, and vigilante groups.

Governor Zulum Speaking

Zulum declared, “As a people of faith, we believe our security strategies must be underpinned by prayer. I, hereby declare Monday, 24th November, 2025, as a Statewide Day of Fasting and Prayer for the restoration of peace in Borno State and the country.”

He called on every resident to join in seeking divine intervention and added, “I also urge the people to use this period to pray for divine protection against evildoers, saboteurs, and all enemies of peace.”

Zulum concluded by assuring citizens that his administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of security personnel, strengthen community vigilance, and support peaceful engagement when necessary—without compromising the safety or integrity of the state.

What You Should Know

Governor Babagana Zulum’s address highlights the renewed security challenges confronting Borno State after a period of relative calm.

His declaration of a statewide fasting and prayer day aims to rally residents toward unity and spiritual reinforcement as the state battles fresh Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks.

Zulum’s message also underscores the resilience of the people, the progress made in agriculture, and the government’s ongoing commitment to security and community protection.
