The Nasarawa State Police Command has refuted widespread claims that pupils of St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School, Rukubi, in Doma Local Government Area were abducted on Friday, describing the reports as misleading and entirely inaccurate.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the command dismissed the circulating social media posts and news reports as “false” and not representative of what truly occurred.

According to the police, panic ensued when students on their way to the school field for Physical and Health Education classes encountered armed hunters in the surrounding area. Startled, the pupils mistook the hunters for kidnappers and fled, prompting immediate concern among staff.

Teachers quickly intervened and guided the students back to safety within the school compound. Nansel explained that once the initial distress call was received, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, swiftly deployed a combined team of police officers and military personnel already stationed nearby to assess the situation.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers. The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored,” the statement noted.

The school’s proprietor also confirmed to authorities that no abduction occurred, describing the alarm as unfounded. Security personnel have since maintained close surveillance around the area to ensure continued safety and prevent any potential threats.

The police command urged members of the public to ignore the unverified claims and cautioned journalists and media organisations against publishing unconfirmed information that could fuel unnecessary fear across the state.

“The report is mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news,” the statement added.

The Nasarawa State Police Command, led by Commissioner Shetima Jauro Mohammed, clarified that no students from St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School were abducted.

The scare stemmed from pupils mistaking local hunters for kidnappers, prompting a brief panic quickly resolved by security forces. The command continues to monitor the area and warns against spreading unverified reports.
