With just one week remaining until its release, Doja Cat has lifted the curtain on her fifth studio album “Vie,” revealing a 15-track collection that signals a deliberate pivot toward pop sensibilities while maintaining her signature artistic independence.

The Los Angeles-based artist, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, dropped the official tracklist on Friday, building anticipation for what she has characterized as her most “pop-driven project” to date. The September 26 release, distributed through Kemosabe and RCA Records, represents a strategic creative shift for the 28-year-old performer who has consistently challenged genre boundaries throughout her career.

Central to the album’s early success is lead single “Jealous Type,” which has already demonstrated considerable commercial momentum. The track peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart and climbed to No. 28 on the coveted Billboard Hot 100, establishing a solid foundation for the project’s mainstream appeal.

The song gained additional visibility through a memorable performance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, where Doja Cat shared the stage with jazz legend Kenny G in what industry observers described as an unexpected but compelling artistic pairing. While “Jealous Type” earned a nomination for Song of the Summer, Doja Cat ultimately claimed the Best K-pop trophy for “Born Again,” her collaboration with LISA and RAYE, underscoring her versatility across multiple musical landscapes.

Notably absent from “Vie” are featured artists, marking a return to the solo approach that defined her 2023 release “Scarlet.” This creative decision echoes her 2014 debut EP, “Purrr!,” and suggests a deliberate artistic statement about self-reliance and individual expression. However, the extended version of “Scarlet,” titled “Scarlet 2 CLAUDE,” did incorporate collaborations with A$AP Rocky and Teezo Touchdown, indicating her willingness to selectively embrace partnerships when they serve her creative vision.

In recent interviews, Doja Cat has been candid about her experimental approach to “Vie,” particularly regarding vocal technique. Speaking with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, she revealed her collaboration with renowned producer Jack Antonoff, known for his work with Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey, among others.

“I think it’s just been nice to play. I really played through the whole thing,” she explained. “I think what I wanted to do was play with my voice in ways that are a little bit less unconventional. And so I’m shrieking a little bit on this album, and that’s been a lot of fun.”

This vocal experimentation represents a fascinating development for an artist already known for her dynamic range and willingness to push boundaries. The partnership with Antonoff, whose production style has helped define contemporary pop music, suggests “Vie” may represent Doja Cat’s most accessible work while maintaining the innovative edge that has distinguished her career.

The album’s release strategy includes a high-profile television appearance on “Saturday Night Live” the weekend following its debut, with Bad Bunny serving as host. This placement on one of television’s most influential platforms underscores the industry’s expectations for “Vie” and positions it for maximum cultural impact.

For Doja Cat, whose career trajectory has included Grammy recognition and consistent chart success, “Vie” represents both artistic evolution and commercial calculation. The album arrives at a moment when pop music continues to fragment across streaming platforms and social media, requiring artists to balance authenticity with accessibility.

As the music industry watches closely, “Vie” will test whether Doja Cat’s pop pivot resonates with both longtime fans and mainstream audiences seeking her unique blend of innovation and entertainment.

The album will be available across all major streaming platforms beginning Friday, September 26.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Doja Cat is releasing her fifth studio album, “Vie,” on September 26, marking a strategic shift toward pop music while working solo without featured artists. The 15-track album, produced with Jack Antonoff, showcases vocal experimentation and builds on the success of lead single “Jealous Type” (No. 28 on Billboard Hot 100).

This represents a calculated move to balance mainstream accessibility with her signature artistic innovation, potentially defining her next career phase as she prepares for a major SNL performance following the release.
