The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised President Bola Tinubu for lifting the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, calling the move a restoration of democratic governance.

Tinubu had declared the emergency on March 18, 2025, invoking Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution and suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Bias (retd.) as Sole Administrator.

On Wednesday, Tinubu announced the suspension of the emergency, citing “a groundswell of a new spirit of understanding” among stakeholders.

“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State … shall end with effect from midnight today,” Tinubu said.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike noted that the President’s swift action in March had “saved the State,” while lifting the suspension restored confidence in his leadership.

The FCT Minister commended Rivers people for their continued support for the President and urged them to remain steadfast as Tinubu works to return Nigeria “to the path of progress and development.”

He also warned against “fifth columnists who are always seeking to benefit from crisis,” urging stakeholders to work collectively for peace.

“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be of peace, progress and development,” Wike said.
