President Bola Tinubu on Friday left Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, for a diplomatic visit to Japan and Brazil, with a scheduled stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to his first destination.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which will be held in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22. The conference will focus on various themes related to African development, and the president will take part in its plenary sessions.
While in Japan, Tinubu is also expected to engage in bilateral discussions and meet with chief executive officers of Japanese companies that have existing or potential investments in Nigeria.
Following the conclusion of TICAD9, the president will travel to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for a two-day state visit scheduled from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25. The trip comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
During his time in Brazil, Tinubu will hold a bilateral meeting with President Lula and participate in a business forum aimed at strengthening economic ties with Brazilian investors.
