In a move that blends the worlds of global music and British football, iconic American rapper Snoop Dogg has joined the ownership team of Swansea City, a club competing in England’s Championship.

The announcement, made by the Welsh side, marks an unexpected but strategic partnership intended to raise the club’s international visibility and commercial appeal.

At 53, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, is no stranger to the sport, having previously expressed his admiration for football on numerous occasions. His official involvement was revealed after he appeared in a recent promotional campaign wearing the new home kit for Swansea City’s 2025-26 season. The club confirmed on Thursday that the rap legend has taken on the role of investor.

This development follows last year’s acquisition of Swansea City by American entrepreneurs Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen. Their vision has included broadening the club’s global presence and creating new revenue opportunities in line with British football’s financial sustainability rules. Snoop Dogg’s entry is expected to support this agenda, leveraging his extensive fan base, which exceeds 100 million followers across various platforms.

Alongside Snoop Dogg, football veteran Luka Modric, a former Real Madrid midfielder and Croatian World Cup finalist, has also become a part-owner. Modric, who recently signed with AC Milan at the age of 39, was revealed as an investor earlier in April, further adding star power to Swansea’s ownership structure.

Snoop Dogg shared his enthusiasm about the partnership via the club’s official website. “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City,” he stated. “The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I’m proud to be part of Swansea City.”

Club executives echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the strategic nature of the move. “To borrow a phrase from Snoop’s back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club’s reach and profile,” said the ownership group in an official statement. They emphasized Snoop’s passion for the sport and pointed to the potential of his global influence to drive engagement and marketing opportunities.

They added, “Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game and we expect his involvement to support us putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field.”

Swansea City, relegated from the Premier League in 2018, continues to chase a return to the top flight. The club’s leadership believes that the involvement of such high-profile figures could inject new energy into their pursuit.

The move also draws comparisons to the recent rise of Swansea’s Welsh rivals, Wrexham AFC, who soared through the ranks after being acquired by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020. That deal not only improved Wrexham’s fortunes on the pitch but also turned the club into a global brand, suggesting Swansea may be on a similar path with its latest co-owner.

His investment follows similar celebrity-led ventures into football and is expected to boost the club’s brand visibility, helping them on their journey back to the Premier League.
