Tinubu had departed Nigeria on June 28 for official visits to the Caribbean nation and Brazil. His trip to St Lucia was described as part of efforts “to deepen Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations.” Onanuga added, “First, from the perspective of the Government of Saint Lucia, the visit by the Nigerian leader paves the way for the rekindling of our ancestral bonds, igniting a new era of diplomatic, cultural, and economic possibilities between our nations.”

He later travelled to Brazil, specifically Rio de Janeiro, where he attended the BRICS Summit and joined other global leaders. At the summit, Tinubu advocated for the inclusion of low-income countries in global economic decisions.
