Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, have officially withdrawn their services following a delay in the payment of their June 2025 salary.
The decision, confirmed by branch chairperson Jurbe Molwus, came in response to an existing directive from ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which empowers branches to take action if salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month.
“This is in line with the extant NEC resolution that ‘branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month’ and our congress resolution of June 4, 2025, affirming this position,” Molwus stated.
According to the union, its members have ceased all lectures and statutory meetings as of 12:01 am, Friday, July 4, 2025, and will not return to work until salaries are fully paid.
“Dear comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 pm today, July 3,” the message to union members read.
The branch has also activated its strike monitoring team to ensure full compliance with the directive.
ASUU’s firm stance marks a continuation of its longstanding push for timely remuneration and improved welfare for academic staff nationwide. The development may further disrupt academic activities at the University of Jos if the impasse persists.
