Rivers Angels Football Club has once again etched its name in history, securing the President’s Federation Cup Women’s title for the tenth time after a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Nasarawa Amazons at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday.
Speaking after the triumph, Rivers State Sole Administrator, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), through the Secretary to the State Government, Ibibia Worika, praised the team’s exceptional performance. “This is absolutely unprecedented. There’s nothing like it,” Worika remarked. “We are proud as Rivers men and women that our girls can put up such a feat.”
Worika conveyed the administrator’s personal message to the players before the match, reaffirming the government’s pride and support, and pledged a ₦50 million reward in recognition of their achievement.
He also used the opportunity to reassure medal-winning athletes from Team Rivers at the 2024 National Sports Festival that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises to them.
Rivers Angels’ Team Manager, Mrs. Matilda Otuenne, attributed the victory to the team’s relentless dedication and hard work, celebrating the club’s continued dominance in Nigerian women’s football.
The club’s previous titles were won in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and earlier in 2024—making this latest win a historic tenth.
