Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised a suspected bandit in Kwesati, Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and other items during a targeted clearance mission against criminal elements.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, the operation was launched following actionable intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits. The troops swiftly deployed and established a tactical position along a suspected crossing route, where they encountered and engaged the armed elements.
“During the operation, the troops made contact with the criminals and engaged them with superior firepower. The intensity of the engagement forced the bandits to flee in disarray, with several suspected to have escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds. One bandit was neutralised during the encounter,” the statement said.
Subsequent searches yielded an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and affirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ongoing operations aimed at securing Taraba State. He called on residents to continue supplying credible intelligence to aid the military’s efforts.
