NNPCL Accuses Syndicate of Coordinated Sabotage, Vows to Stay the Course on Reform

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a calculated and coordinated campaign of sabotage aimed at derailing its ongoing reform agenda.

In a statement issued by its management on Friday, the national oil company said it had uncovered an emerging syndicate—composed of both internal and external actors—whose sole aim is to discredit the company’s leadership and disrupt the transformational process underway within the organisation.

According to NNPC Ltd., the campaign is being orchestrated by a mix of “known and faceless actors” who are engaged in the deliberate spread of falsehoods, fabricated reports, and damaging misinformation. The company described the effort as a sinister strategy designed to distract its leadership, mislead the Nigerian public, and erode confidence in the institution’s progress.

“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports, curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians,” the statement read.

The company firmly stated that these campaigns are not random but are targeted attempts by individuals and groups who feel threatened by the ongoing push for transparency, accountability, and institutional reform. The NNPC management described the offensive as a form of resistance from those clinging to the status quo.

“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change—clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the company stated.

The reforms being implemented by NNPC Ltd. are part of a broader mandate from President Bola Tinubu to revamp the company into a performance-driven, corruption-free entity aligned with global standards in energy governance and accountability. The oil giant reiterated that, despite the rising wave of defamatory publications, its leadership and staff are resolute in their commitment to deliver on this mandate.

“We expect a surge of defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead, but NNPC Ltd. remains undeterred. The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it,” the company emphasized.

The statement also served as a rallying call to stakeholders and patriotic Nigerians. The company urged all those who believe in the reforms to stay committed, focused, and undistracted by the disinformation being circulated. It further reassured its staff that their dedication is acknowledged and appreciated, especially in the face of external efforts to destabilize the organisation’s progress.

As the NNPC continues to reposition itself as a commercial enterprise operating under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, its leadership has faced mounting scrutiny—both from watchdogs and political observers—over transparency in revenue generation, project execution, and accountability. However, Friday’s statement signals a new level of concern from the company, indicating that it believes the campaign of misinformation is no longer incidental but orchestrated and sustained.

While no specific individuals or organisations were named in the statement, the tone and content suggest the company is preparing for a prolonged public relations and institutional battle with entrenched interests resisting change.

With this public disclosure, NNPC Ltd. is now drawing a line between those aligned with its transformation goals and those it views as obstacles to progress, vowing that reform will not be sacrificed on the altar of sabotage.

What You Should Know

NNPC Ltd. has accused internal and external forces of launching a deliberate disinformation campaign to derail its reform agenda. The company insists it will not be deterred and remains committed to transparency, accountability, and performance-driven leadership, in line with President Tinubu’s directive.
