In a major step towards de-escalating longstanding hostilities between the Tiv and Fulani communities in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and head of Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, has brokered a peace accord between both ethnic groups.

The accord represents a significant milestone in ongoing efforts by military and civil authorities to restore trust and stability among communities in the state. With increasing recognition of nonviolent conflict resolution mechanisms, the initiative underscores the importance of dialogue and understanding in addressing interethnic grievances.

The peace dialogue was convened at the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, bringing together community leaders, traditional rulers, elders, and other influential figures. The aim was to collectively examine the root causes of recent tensions and arrive at a comprehensive framework to prevent future clashes between the two groups.

Against the backdrop of persistent communal unrest, Brigadier General Uwa addressed the gathering with a firm message, condemning cycles of retaliation and lawlessness. He cautioned that no person or group holds the legal authority to dispense justice unilaterally, stressing that such actions only deepen division and obstruct reconciliation.

The release emphasized that genuine security and meaningful development are only attainable in a climate marked by respect and collaboration.

As the dialogue progressed, the Tiv and Fulani representatives reached a consensus to renounce violence and foster communication channels between their communities. They agreed to disavow the harboring of criminal actors, assist law enforcement agencies through timely intelligence sharing, and work jointly to forestall any resurgence of hostilities.
