The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the deadly flood that struck Mokwa Local Government Area, claiming at least 21 lives and destroying property worth millions of naira.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum expressed deep sorrow over the scale of the disaster and pledged solidarity with the victims.
“The Nigeria Governors’ Forum stands in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State on the devastating flood that has wreaked huge havoc in Mokwa town of the state,” AbdulRazaq stated.
He added, “We are shocked by the magnitude of the flooding, which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties in the community. We sincerely commiserate with the affected families and express our support to the state government at this difficult time.”
The NGF also acknowledged the Niger State Government’s response and collaboration with emergency agencies to assist the victims.
Describing the flood as a stark reminder of the harsh realities of climate change, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to enhance relief efforts and strengthen disaster preparedness.
“We pray God to console families who have lost loved ones and properties in the Mokwa incident,” the statement concluded. “We urge citizens to support the government’s efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and to cooperate with agencies working to assist those in urgent need at this time.”
