The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that it will publish the results of the 379,000 candidates who participated in the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday.

The supplementary examination, conducted between Friday and Monday, followed numerous complaints of both technical and human-related issues during the initial UTME, which had a significant impact on candidate performance, particularly in Lagos and the South-East. JAMB admitted that the disruptions exposed flaws in its system. Last week, the board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, took full responsibility and grew emotional while announcing the resit for the affected candidates.

Speaking with journalists on Monday, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed the date for the release of the resit results. “The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday,” Benjamin stated.

Prof. Oloyede had earlier revealed that 379,997 candidates were affected—206,610 in 65 centres across Lagos and 173,387 in 92 centres in the South-East. He attributed the earlier disruptions to an act of “sabotage” and said that notifications for the rescheduled exam were sent to affected candidates via SMS beginning last Thursday.

Of the total 1,955,069 candidates who took part in the original UTME, more than 1.5 million scored below 200 marks out of a possible 400, raising questions about the integrity and fairness of the exercise.

What you should know
JAMB is set to release the resit UTME results after its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, publicly accepted blame for earlier failings. His emotional response and swift action aim to restore confidence in the examination body’s credibility.
