Three sitting senators from Kebbi State, originally elected under the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have officially announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement came after their closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

The defecting lawmakers are Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South). They were accompanied to the meeting by APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

Their defection is part of a growing trend of PDP members switching allegiance to the APC in recent weeks.

In attendance at the meeting were prominent political figures, including Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Senator Atiku Bagudu.

What you should know

Senator Adamu Aliero, a former governor and long-serving politician, leads the list of PDP senators from Kebbi State shifting loyalty to the APC.

Their defection signals renewed political realignment in the northwest ahead of future elections.
