The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has tasked participants of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) to ensure their study tour reports offer actionable strategies to tackle security challenges.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Monday during a courtesy visit by Senior Course 47 of the AFCSC, Ibas—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika—stressed the importance of feedback from security agencies. He warned that internal security would remain unattainable without proper intelligence-gathering systems.

He noted that insecurity adversely affects economic activities, reduces government revenue, and discourages investment. Ibas encouraged the participants to translate their engagements with stakeholders into practical outcomes that can enhance security operations within the state.

The Administrator expressed optimism that the research would not only enrich academic discourse but also strengthen Rivers State’s overall security architecture.

Commander S. O. Abdularaheen, Director of Logistics at AFCSC Jaji and leader of the visiting team, explained that the study tour is part of the 2025 research initiative exploring national security concerns across Nigeria.

He noted that the tour, themed “Harnessing Grassroots Intelligence for Enhanced Internal Security,” involves nine teams visiting various states. Findings will be compiled into a comprehensive research paper with recommendations expected to guide government policies.

What you should know
The Armed Forces Command and Staff College conducts annual study tours across Nigeria as part of its senior courses.

This year’s focus on grassroots intelligence echoes growing calls for community-based security frameworks, especially in regions plagued by banditry and political unrest.

Rivers State, an economic hub in the Niger Delta, has long faced security challenges linked to militancy and pipeline vandalism. Insights from these study tours often influence high-level military and civilian policy discussions.

By urging the participants to go beyond theory, Ibas is aligning Rivers State with national efforts to enhance internal security through actionable, data-driven strategies.
