Manchester United received a timely fitness boost ahead of their Europa League final showdown as Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, and Leny Yoro all took part in training on Tuesday.
Ruben Amorim’s squad is gearing up to face Tottenham in an all-English final set to take place in Bilbao on Wednesday.
Zirkzee, previously ruled out for the season due to a hamstring injury sustained at Newcastle in April, may now be available after sitting out United’s last eight matches across all competitions.
Dalot has missed six games due to a calf issue, while Yoro was absent during last Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea due to a foot injury.
Though the trio returned to training at Carrington, Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined. The Dutch defender has missed United’s last three games with an undisclosed issue and was not seen during Tuesday’s session.
United, currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, are hoping to redeem their season by winning the first trophy under Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November. Victory over Tottenham would also guarantee them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Postecoglou Under Pressure Despite Final Hopes
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou could guide the club to their first major trophy in 17 years and still face the axe. As his side prepares to take on Manchester United in Bilbao, Postecoglou’s future remains uncertain despite the stakes.
Tottenham’s last piece of major silverware came in the 2008 League Cup, with their most recent European title dating back to the 1984 UEFA Cup. A win on Wednesday would not only break the drought but also seal a Champions League place.
However, a poor domestic campaign has left Postecoglou’s position in jeopardy, and speculation about his potential exit continues to grow. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly identified possible replacements, including Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, and Fulham’s Marco Silva.
Postecoglou’s confident declaration in September that he “always win things” in his second season now hangs heavily over what could be his final match in charge.
