The Zamfara State Government has strongly denied a circulating report alleging that a woman named Zainab Muhamadu is scheduled to face trial in a Sharia Court for converting to Christianity.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, condemned the story as entirely false, attributing its origin to social media posts designed to mislead the public and stir controversy.
According to Idris, investigations have confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that no such case exists in any Sharia court within the state. “The attention of the Zamfara State Government has been drawn to mischievous fake news circulating about a 22-year-old Miss Zainab Muhamadu, who is facing the death penalty for converting to Christianity. We want to categorically state that it is the handiwork of enemies of peace, who are hellbent on creating a tension where there is none.”
The statement accused a known online platform of spreading the misinformation, labelling it a deliberate act to disrupt harmony. The government said it acted swiftly by engaging relevant authorities and security agencies to verify the facts. The Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal confirmed that no such matter had ever been brought before any Sharia court in the state.
The statement questioned the motives behind the fabricated report and criticized media outlets that propagate unverified social media content. It also clarified that the woman pictured in the viral story is not Nigerian but a Texan named Aalia.
The government emphasized its commitment to peaceful coexistence and urged security forces to track down those behind the false publication and ensure they are brought to justice.
