The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has emphasized the crucial role of prayer in preserving Nigeria, urging the nation not to relent in spiritual intercession despite growing scepticism.
Speaking on Sunday during the monthly Thanksgiving service and special prayers for security and paramilitary personnel at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye said, “Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where is the result?’ I laugh. If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop.”
He underscored that the RCCG has been shielded from calamities since its inception, describing the church as operating under a “divine covering.” Preaching on the topic “Shadow of the Almighty,” Adeboye recounted miraculous incidents as signs of God’s supernatural protection over the church.

Citing one example, he shared how during a devastating flood in the United States, only a house labeled as an RCCG House Fellowship out of a row of 15 was untouched. Similarly, he spoke of a fire incident in March at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where a blaze consumed surrounding buildings but spared an RCCG structure. “That is not a coincidence — that is divine covering,” he said, as the church projected the image of the spared building during his sermon.
Adeboye reminded the congregation that while God’s protective hand may not be seen, its impact is undeniable. “There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings,” he said.
His wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, led prayers for Nigeria and those in leadership, saying, “Let’s ask God to show our president mercy and give him peace, so that he may enjoy his time in office.”
The service also honored Nigeria’s security and paramilitary forces, highlighting RCCG’s ongoing dedication to interceding for the nation’s peace and the divine safety of its people.
