Why Tinubu relocated from Nigeria during Buhari’s regime – Nigerian senator
Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole has said President Bola Tinubu relocated out of Nigeria during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari due to circumstances he considered uncomfortable within the government at the time.
The former Edo State governor made the disclosure during an appearance on The Mic On Podcast on Sunday.
According to Oshiomhole, Tinubu remained loyal to Buhari and continued to support him despite feeling sidelined during the administration.
He said the current president was unhappy with some government decisions, including certain policies and appointments made during Buhari’s tenure.
Oshiomhole explained that Tinubu chose to spend time outside the country in order to avoid situations that he believed could subject him to embarrassment.
He added that the former Lagos State governor was not given the level of involvement many expected, despite being regarded as a leading figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senator also recalled Buhari’s famous declaration at the beginning of his presidency that he belonged to everybody and belonged to nobody, suggesting that the statement reflected the style of leadership that followed.
He said, “Tinubu stood with Buhari even when he was ignored. Tinubu relocated so that he can be free from humiliation raising from either choice of policy, appointment of people and some of the decisions that Buhari was taking.
“Remember that the first pronouncement of Buhari was that I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody”.
Tinubu served as the national leader of the APC during Buhari’s presidency and played a major role in the party’s rise to power in 2015.
However, there were reports at the time of differences between political camps within the ruling party.
During Buhari’s years in office, several media reports noted that Tinubu spent extended periods in France, leading to public discussions about his relationship with the administration and his role within the party.
