Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), taking place in New York from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
His participation follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima will present Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. New York time.
On the same day, the Vice President will join other world leaders at a special climate event organized by the UN Secretary-General. During this session, Nigeria is expected to unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
Shettima will also participate in a high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, convened by the President of Kenya, alongside several bilateral meetings with global leaders.
Following his engagements in New York, the Vice President will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
