Brazilian forward Vinicius has apologised to Real Madrid following his angry reaction to being substituted during their intense 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Barcelona at the weekend.
The 25-year-old stormed off the pitch and headed down the tunnel after being replaced by Rodrygo in the 72nd minute, visibly frustrated by the decision. During his public apology, Vinicius did not specifically mention coach Xabi Alonso, with whom he had remonstrated during the incident.

“Today I want to apologise to all Madrid fans for my reaction to being substituted in the Clasico. Just as I have already done it in person during today’s training, I also want to apologise again to my teammates, club and president,” he said.

“Sometimes passion gets the better of me by always wanting to win and help my team. My competitive nature is born from the love I feel for this club and for everything it represents. I promise to continue fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since day one,” Vinicius added.
The forward later returned to the bench to watch the final minutes of the match and was also involved in a brief confrontation with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.

After the game, Alonso told reporters that Vinicius’s reaction would be addressed internally within the dressing room.
