Veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has reportedly died at the age of 56.
Oladipo, a former Politics Editor of PUNCH newspapers, reportedly died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after he suddenly became ill at his office.
According to NewsmakersNG, the journalist appeared to be in good health earlier that day. He reportedly went to the gym with his wife before heading to his office, where he continued with his usual activities.
Oladipo was also active on social media during the day, with his last known post reportedly made at about 2:50pm.
He later became unwell at his office and reportedly decided to drive himself to a hospital for treatment.
However, he was said to have suffered what was suspected to be a heart attack during the emergency and was later pronounced dead.
Oladipo was a respected journalist and newsroom professional whose career spanned several decades.
He worked in traditional journalism, newsroom management and digital publishing, building a reputation for his coverage of politics, business, the economy and other major national issues.
Before establishing The Eagle Online, he worked as a journalist and held editorial responsibilities, including serving as Politics Editor of PUNCH newspapers.
His move into digital publishing came as Nigeria’s media industry increasingly shifted online, making him part of a generation of journalists who helped develop professional news platforms on the internet.
Beyond his work as a publisher, Oladipo remained involved with fellow journalists and issues concerning the development of the journalism profession.
He is survived by his wife, children and other family members.
