The United Kingdom Home Office has announced plans to introduce new fees for passport applications starting from April 8, 2026.
The proposed changes, which are subject to approval by Parliament, will affect several categories of passport applications.
Under the new proposal, the fee for a standard online passport application made from within the United Kingdom will increase from £94.50 to £102 for adults and from £61.50 to £66.50 for children.
Postal applications will also rise from £107 to £115.50 for adults and from £74 to £80 for children.
In addition, the fee for the Premium Service one-day passport application made within the UK will increase from £222 to £239.50.
For applicants applying from outside the United Kingdom, the cost of a standard online application will increase from £108 to £116.50 for adults and from £70 to £75.50 for children.
Similarly, overseas standard paper applications will increase from £120.50 to £130 for adults and from £82.50 to £89 for children.
In a statement published on the official website of the UK Government, the Home Office explained that the new fees are intended to help the department cover the costs associated with passport services.
“The new fees will help the Home Office to continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation. The government does not make any profit from the cost of passport applications.
“The fees contribute to the cost of processing passport applications, consular support overseas, including for lost or stolen passports, and the cost of processing British citizens at UK borders,” the statement said.
The government also advised applicants to submit their passport applications early before making travel plans.
“Customers are advised that they should apply in good time before travelling. Apply online for a UK passport,” the statement added.
The Home Office further disclosed that in 2025, where no additional information was required, 99.7 per cent of standard passport applications submitted within the United Kingdom were processed within three weeks.
