‎Bandits have seized the traditional ruler, the Ojibara of Bayagan, Oba Kamilu Salami, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, heightening renewed fears over the persistent insecurity troubling communities across the state.

‎According to local sources, the monarch was taken away on Saturday morning while working on his farm. However, the full circumstances of the abduction were still unclear at the time this report was prepared.

Residents explained that the incident occurred abruptly, throwing the area into panic and widespread anxiety as people struggled to grasp what had happened.

‎As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the kidnapping.

What You Should Know

Oba Kamilu Salami’s abduction adds to a series of security challenges confronting rural communities in Kwara.

The state government has been implementing several measures to strengthen safety, including increased patrols along rural routes, tighter collaboration between local vigilantes and security agencies, and the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable areas.

Authorities have also been holding emergency security meetings with traditional rulers and community leaders to enhance intelligence gathering and early-warning systems.
