World record holder Tobi Amusan stormed into the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after winning her heat on Sunday.
The Nigerian speedster clocked 12.53s in heat six, finishing ahead of Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton (12.69s) and Italy’s Elena Carraro (12.86s).

Amusan, 28, now eyes Tuesday’s semi-finals and final as she continues her hunt for another global medal. Other stars including Olympic champion Masai Russell, defending world champion Danielle Williams, Nadine Visser, Ackera Nugent, and Grace Stark also secured safe passage from their heats.

Elsewhere, Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye fell short in the hammer throw, with her best attempt of 68.82m not enough to reach the final. Attention later turned to sprinters Kanyisola Ajayi and Israel Okon, who were set to feature in the men’s 100m semi-finals and final during the evening session.
