Tinubu Orders Nationwide Rice Distribution for Nigerians
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to begin the distribution of rice across the country to support Nigerians observing Ramadan and Lent.
The directive was made public in a statement explaining that the programme is meant to assist families during the fasting periods observed by Muslims and Christians.
According to the information released, the rice will be distributed in all states through the nationwide network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
The group is expected to work through structures at the state, local government and ward levels so that the food items can reach families in different communities.
The president said the intervention is in line with the spirit of charity and compassion often associated with the two religious seasons.
Ramadan and Lent are periods when many believers fast and also engage in acts of giving and support to others.
The rice will be distributed through local coordinators, community leaders and ward representatives who will help identify those who will benefit from the support.
Residents are expected to contact their ward leaders, local government officials or community coordinators connected to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors network to find out how to receive the rice in their area during the fasting period.
Tinubu also recalled that a similar distribution was carried out during the Christmas celebration last year.
At that time, rice was shared in different parts of the country to assist Nigerians during the festive season.
He explained that continuing the programme during other religious seasons shows the administration’s plan to support citizens during important moments in the country’s social and religious life.
The effort is also expected to promote unity among Nigerians from different backgrounds.
Commenting on the programme, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, who serves as Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, said the initiative reflects the president’s plan to encourage unity and support among citizens.
Uzodimma stated that Ramadan and Lent are periods that remind people about sacrifice, generosity and caring for others.
He added that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors network will work to ensure that the rice distribution reaches communities in different parts of the country.
He further explained that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme was launched in February 2026 as a nationwide grassroots platform.
The initiative was created to bring government programmes closer to communities and encourage citizen participation while promoting unity and development under the Tinubu–Shettima administration.
Officials involved in the programme also stated that the rice distribution will focus mainly on low-income households and vulnerable groups.
Many families have been struggling with rising food prices and the cost of living, and the programme is expected to provide some relief during the fasting season.
Community leaders and coordinators at the local level are expected to help identify people who will benefit from the distribution.
This approach is intended to ensure that the food items reach those who need support during the Ramadan and Lent periods.
