President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended an open invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the party would gladly welcome him if he decides to make the switch.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20 and other road projects in Abuja’s Katampe District. While acknowledging that Wike is not yet a member of the APC, Tinubu praised his contributions to the FCT’s development.
“We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of our party, not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will join him in singing ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us’,” Tinubu said, drawing laughter and applause.
The President used the occasion to highlight the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that such projects are critical to national progress.
“This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt. It affirms our commitment to urban transformation, under our Renewed Hope Agenda. Since assuming office in May 2023, this administration has been guided by a philosophy anchored on reform and regeneration. Today, we’ve seen tangible proof of that philosophy in action,” Tinubu stated.
He emphasised that infrastructure is essential, not optional, and a key driver of growth, integration, and competitiveness.
“Infrastructure is not a luxury. It is a necessity. It is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, social integration and economic opportunity,” he noted.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s investments across multiple sectors, including roads, rainpower, healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure. He said coordinated development efforts are crucial to unlocking Nigeria’s full economic potential.
“We are investing in roads, rainpower, health care, education and digital infrastructure. It is only through this coordinated and integrated development that we can unlock Nigeria’s full potential. I promise you, we will,” he concluded.
