President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded Nigeria’s Super Eagles following their convincing 2–0 win against Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, praising the team’s showing as “brilliant” and “inspiring”.
Reacting to the result on Saturday via his official X account, Tinubu expressed national pride in the team’s achievement, writing, “Brilliant performance… Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians.”

Nigeria booked a place in the semi-finals with a composed and authoritative performance, powered by Victor Osimhen, who opened the scoring and later provided the assist for Akor Adams’ goal. The victory has now set up a high-profile last-four encounter against tournament hosts Morocco.
The Super Eagles found their breakthrough shortly after the interval, with Osimhen rising to head home just two minutes into the second half. The striker continued to torment the Algerian defence and, just before the hour mark, turned creator by supplying Akor Adams, who finished calmly to double Nigeria’s advantage and put the contest beyond Algeria’s reach.

Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year, was influential throughout the match and was later named man of the match. Speaking after receiving the award, he downplayed individual praise and highlighted the collective effort of the team.
“A very big congratulations to the whole team for the kind of performance they put in against a very good Algeria team,” Osimhen said.
“For me I just did my job. I tried to fight for the team and to get goals or assists, but the whole squad deserves praise.”

The win not only extended Nigeria’s strong run in the competition but also boosted confidence ahead of what promises to be a demanding semi-final test against Morocco on home soil.
