President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Japan ahead of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
The Nigerian leader landed in Tokyo on Monday, where he was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, alongside senior Japanese officials. Tinubu, who departed Abuja on Friday, August 15, made a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before continuing his journey to Japan.
In a statement, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga explained that President Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions at TICAD9, focusing on themes that address Africa’s development agenda. Beyond the main sessions, he is expected to hold bilateral discussions with world leaders and engage with chief executive officers of leading Japanese companies currently investing in Nigeria.
Onanuga also noted that following the conclusion of the conference, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for a two-day state visit between Sunday, August 24, and Monday, August 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
During his stay in Brazil, Tinubu is scheduled to meet his host for high-level bilateral talks and participate in a business forum aimed at attracting more Brazilian investment into Nigeria.
