Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after his appearance in a London court on serious allegations of rape and sexual assault.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian footballer faces a total of six charges—five counts of rape involving two women and one charge of sexual assault involving a third woman.

The accusations stem from incidents reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s tenure at Arsenal. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, days after officially parting ways with the Premier League club, following the expiration of his contract at the end of June. Dressed in a black zip-up jumper, Partey stood in the dock with his arms behind his back as proceedings took place.

British authorities first began investigating the matter after receiving a complaint in February 2022. Since then, the investigation has expanded to include multiple allegations from three different women. These developments come shortly after Partey’s departure from the North London club, where he played a central role since joining from Atletico Madrid in October 2020. Arsenal had paid a release clause of £45 million (approximately \$60 million) to secure his services.

In response to the legal proceedings, Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that the footballer “denies all the charges against him,” emphasizing his eagerness to “finally clear his name” in court.

During his time at Arsenal, Partey was a consistent presence on the pitch, appearing 52 times for the club in his most recent season and contributing four goals. Across all competitions, he played in 167 matches and scored nine goals. Internationally, he has earned 51 caps for Ghana, further establishing himself as a key figure in the national team.

The footballer’s legal troubles have come at a time when speculation about his next club has begun to surface. Recent media reports suggest that Spanish side Villarreal may be considering a move for the former Premier League player.

Arsenal Football Club, in a brief statement, noted: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.”
