Iga Swiatek delivered a tennis masterclass on Saturday, overwhelming Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in a stunning 57-minute final to capture her first Wimbledon crown and sixth Grand Slam title, emphatically silencing any doubts about her prowess on grass.

The 24-year-old Polish star, seeded eighth at the All England Club, now boasts a perfect 6-0 record in Grand Slam finals—an extraordinary statistic that underscores her growing dominance on the global tennis stage. Her triumph also marks the eighth consecutive year Wimbledon has crowned a first-time women’s singles champion since Serena Williams last lifted the trophy in 2016.

Swiatek entered the match with building momentum, having reached the final of the Bad Homburg grass-court tournament just two weeks earlier. As several top seeds crashed out during the early stages at Wimbledon, Swiatek quietly advanced, dropping just one set en route to the final.

Anisimova

Her opponent, 13th-seeded Amanda Anisimova of the United States, had captured headlines with a shock semi-final victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka. That win positioned her as a serious threat to Swiatek’s bid, but under the bright lights of Centre Court, she faltered.

Anisimova struggled from the very first point, broken immediately to give Swiatek a 1-0 lead. Within minutes, she found herself 2-0 down. Although she appeared to settle in briefly during her next service game, Swiatek’s relentless pressure and precision forced another break after a double fault from the American, stretching the lead to 3-0.

Anisimova’s woes deepened. She could do little to resist Swiatek’s blazing groundstrokes, and a flurry of unforced errors—14 in the opening set alone—sealed her fate. Swiatek wrapped up the first set in just 25 minutes, having conceded only six points on her opponent’s serve.

There was no respite for Anisimova in the second set. Despite cheers of encouragement from the Centre Court crowd, she faltered again in the third game, committing another costly double fault and netting a backhand to fall behind. Swiatek remained implacable, laser-focused, and ruthless in execution.

As the match neared its end, it became evident that Anisimova had no answers. Swiatek calmly served out the match, dropping her racket in disbelief before crossing the net to offer consolation to her devastated opponent.

Swiatek’s triumph not only adds another major to her growing legacy but also dispels the narrative that she is less comfortable on grass courts. Her ability to adapt and excel across surfaces now places her firmly in the upper echelon of women’s tennis greats.
