Nigerian-born NFL star Morotoluwa “Moro” Ojomo has announced plans to establish a sports academy in Nigeriato empower young athletes and promote American football in the country.
Ojomo, who won the 2025 Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, arrived in Lagos on Wednesday with his family. During a meeting with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, he emphasized the importance of investing in Nigeria’s youth.
“In the meeting yesterday, we proposed a plan to ultimately build an academy that not only promotes Nigerian-born athletes overseas or Nigerian descendants who come back and visit but also points to the youths and gives them abilities to grow in strength and skill,” he said.
Beyond the academy, Ojomo pledged to collaborate with local organizations to promote flag football in Nigeria, with the goal of qualifying teams for the 2028 Olympics. He highlighted ongoing tryouts in Lagos, noting efforts to raise awareness and increase participation in the sport.
Reflecting on his journey, Ojomo credited his Nigerian upbringing for his determination and perseverance, stating, “I would not be here without Nigeria.”
In response, Dabiri-Erewa congratulated him on his success and announced that the Nigerian government would honor him for his achievements. She also invited him to share his story at Diaspora Day on July 25.
Ojomo now joins other Nigerian-born NFL champions, including C.J. Uzomah, Chukwuebuka Godrick, Chris Oladokun, and Charles Omenihu, in making a mark on the global stage.
