Canadian actor Spencer Lofranco, widely recognised for his breakout roles in Jamesy Boy and the 2018 crime biopic Gotti, has died at the age of 33.
Authorities in British Columbia have confirmed that his death is currently under investigation, though the cause has not yet been determined.
The news was first made public by his brother, Santino Lofranco, who posted an emotional tribute on Instagram on Tuesday. In his message, he described Spencer as a “legend” who “changed people’s lives,” reflecting the profound impact the young actor had on those around him.
Lofranco’s journey into film began early. In a 2014 interview with Interview magazine, he described himself as a naturally humorous and attention-loving child who found purpose in making others laugh.
Though his father encouraged him toward hockey and eventually a career in law, Spencer chose to follow his passion for acting at 17. He later enrolled in a year-long conservatory program at the New York Film Academy, a period that proved pivotal — it was during that time he landed his first major role in Jamesy Boy.
Over the years, Lofranco built a modest but meaningful body of work, earning seven acting credits. His filmography included appearances in At Middleton (2013), Angelina Jolie’s wartime drama Unbroken (2014), and Home (2015). His last on-screen role came in Gotti (2018), where he starred alongside Hollywood veterans John Travolta and Kelly Preston.
