Federal lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a N100.3 billion defamation lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleges that Akpabio damaged her reputation through a defamatory post on Facebook. The post, published by his aide and titled “Is Local Content Committee of the Senate NATASHA’s BIRTHRIGHT,” reportedly made disparaging remarks about her appearance and legislative competence.
She claims the post was defamatory, provocative, and intended to demean her in the eyes of her colleagues and the public. In her legal action, she seeks a court order compelling the defendants to retract the statement, publish a written apology in a national newspaper, and pay damages amounting to N100 billion, alongside N300 million for litigation costs.
The lawsuit follows a recent confrontation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio over the alleged unauthorized change of her Senate seating position, which escalated into a heated exchange that drew nationwide attention.
