The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The nominees were screened by lawmakers on Monday during a plenary session held at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.
After the screening exercise, the lawmakers confirmed five of the nominees presented by the governor.
Those confirmed are Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
However, the Assembly declined to confirm four other nominees. Those rejected are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams and Otonye TKD Amachree.
Governor Fubara had earlier sent the names of nine individuals to the Rivers State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council.
After receiving the nominations, the House of Assembly invited the nine nominees to submit the necessary documents before their screening and possible confirmation.
The instruction was contained in a special government announcement issued last Tuesday and signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi.
According to the notice, the nominees were required to submit forty copies of their Curriculum Vitae, photocopies of their credentials and proof that they had fulfilled their tax obligations.
“All documents are to be forwarded to the Office of the Clerk at the Assembly Quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
