Nigeria has recorded an 81 percent reduction in terror-related deaths since 2015, according to the Presidency.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Sunday, the Presidency attributed the significant decline to improved counter-insurgency operations and enhanced collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
The statement revealed that over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year alone, while more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered to Nigerian authorities.

It further disclosed that over 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their homes, with ongoing reconstruction efforts in several communities previously affected by insurgency as stability gradually returns.
To support this recovery, the Federal Government has launched a Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict, designed to rebuild war-torn areas and reintegrate displaced citizens into society.
“Since 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through enhanced inter-agency cooperation, has vigorously pursued, arrested, eliminated, or successfully convicted terrorists and insurgents, especially those responsible for some of the most heinous attacks on Nigerian territory,” the statement said.

It also revealed that “since 2024, over 124 terrorists and insurgents have been successfully convicted, while others—including members of the Ansaru leadership and those responsible for the Owo Church bombing in 2022, as well as the Yelwata (Benue) reprisal and counter-reprisal attacks—are undergoing trial in various courts.”
According to the Presidency, additional measures such as joint security task forces, tighter border patrols, victim compensation, permanent joint patrols, and intelligence cooperation with international allies are being implemented to ensure continued protection of lives and strengthen national security.
