The Atan Community Development Council in Ogun State has announced the death of Oba Joel Olusegun Fasina, the Onikooko of Kooko Ebiye in Atan-Odo Ota, and introduced a nine-day movement restriction as part of arrangements for his traditional burial rites.
The traditional ruler reportedly died on Sunday, September 6, 2026, leaving residents of the community in mourning.
Following his death, the council announced that traditional activities in his honour would begin on Monday, September 7, and continue for nine days.
As part of the arrangements, movement within the affected community will be restricted every day from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. throughout the nine-day period.
The restriction will last for five hours each night and is intended to support the peaceful conduct of the traditional rites.
The Atan CDC chairman, Sunday Olatunji, urged residents, visitors and other people within the community to cooperate with the arrangements during the mourning period.
Residents and others who may need to travel at night were advised to plan ahead and complete their movements before the restriction takes effect.
Business owners and motorists operating in Atan-Ota and surrounding areas have also been asked to take note of the restricted hours.
The council advised people to avoid unnecessary movement during the period and cooperate with community arrangements to prevent disruptions.
The council called on residents to remain peaceful and alert throughout the traditional ceremonies.
It also appealed to members of the community to respect the customs and processes being followed for the burial of the late monarch.
The Atan Community Development Council extended its condolences to the royal family, members of the Kooko Ebiye community and others affected by the monarch’s death as preparations for the traditional rites continue.
