Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to reports claiming there is a plan to arrest him ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former Anambra State governor through his aide, Yunusa Tanko dismissed the allegation and said he has not committed any offence that would warrant arrest. He maintained that he has always conducted himself within the law and has nothing to hide.

Obi’s reaction followed growing claims in political circles that some opposition leaders may be targeted by security agencies as the next general election approaches. The rumours also mentioned possible actions against other prominent politicians.

Responding to the development, Obi said he remains focused on national issues and will not be distracted by speculations. He added that he has always been open in his public service and private dealings.

The former governor also said he believes that democracy must allow room for opposition voices to speak freely without fear. According to him, Nigeria’s political space should not become hostile to those who hold different views.

Obi assured his supporters that he is not under any investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Department of State Services. He said he has never been found guilty of corruption or any criminal wrongdoing.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm and not be carried away by unverified reports. Obi added that his commitment to good governance and accountability remains unchanged as the country moves closer to another election season.
