The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resumed its high-level caucus meeting Tuesday at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, following an adjournment on Monday that left several agenda items unaddressed, including plans for the crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, who had earlier pledged to brief journalists after the session, was expected to speak following the meeting. Meanwhile, accredited media personnel have been invited to cover the PDP NEC gathering, which is slated to hold later Tuesday at the party’s secretariat annex, Legacy House, though no fixed time has been disclosed.
According to party officials, the NEC meeting will “address critical issues affecting the party, including strategies for upcoming political engagements.” As one of the PDP’s highest decision-making bodies, the NEC includes the national chairman, National Working Committee (NWC) members, serving and former presidents, vice presidents, state governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, Board of Trustees (BoT) executives, and founding members.
In a related development, the PDP leadership has strongly criticized the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCTDA) for sealing off the party’s national secretariat—Wadata Plaza—on Monday. Addressing reporters after Monday’s caucus meeting, Damagum described the move as “irresponsible” and affirmed the party’s intention to challenge it legally.
The FCTDA had shut down Wadata Plaza over unpaid ground rent and tenancy fees, sparking backlash from party officials and supporters who view the action as politically motivated.
