The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has begun preparations for its forthcoming Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses.
Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, the State Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, confirmed that nomination forms have already been distributed to aspirants across all 250 wards in the state.
He revealed that the Ward Congress will take place on September 13, followed by the Local Government Congress on September 20, while the State Congress has been fixed for September 27, 2025.
Dododo further explained that after each round of congresses, an election appeal committee will be inaugurated to look into grievances and ensure the exercise is conducted with transparency and fairness.
He stressed that the party has provided an equal platform for all contestants, adding that every member has the right to participate in the process. Dododo also encouraged members with concerns to channel them through their respective local government chairmen.
Pro-Malami Councillor Suspended
In a separate development, the Bunza Local Government Council in Kebbi State has handed a six-month suspension to a councillor, Ibrahim Dan-Sabo, for alleged insubordination and disloyalty to the council’s leadership.
Dan-Sabo, who represents Sabon Birnin Ward, reportedly accompanied former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, when his convoy came under attack by political thugs. He was said to have sustained injuries during the incident.
Announcing the suspension in Birnin Kebbi, the leader of the council, Nasiru Usman, disclosed that the action was taken after Dan-Sabo repeatedly disregarded the directives of the council.
“We have suspended him from all local government administrative activities for six months,” Usman stated.
According to him, the councillor consistently showed a lack of loyalty to both the Bunza Local Government Chairman and the council administration.
“On several occasions, we invited him for dialogue and advice, but he refused to heed our counsel,” Usman added.
The council leader also pointed out that the All Progressives Congress (APC) values discipline and expects its members to respect leadership structures at all levels.
When asked if Dan-Sabo had been given prior warnings, Usman confirmed that several cautions had been issued, but the councillor failed to change his conduct.
Political observers, however, believe the suspension may be connected to Dan-Sabo’s continued closeness to Malami, particularly after the attack on the former AGF’s convoy.
