Nottingham Forest’s miserable Premier League campaign deepened on Saturday following a heavy 3-0 loss at home to Chelsea, a result that ultimately cost manager Ange Postecoglou his job.
The defeat extended Forest’s winless streak to eight matches, marking a dismal chapter for the Greek-born coach who was relieved of his duties shortly after the final whistle.
Taiwo Awoniyi made his first start of the season, and Forest began the match with promise. Elliot Anderson had an early opportunity but was quickly closed down in the box following a defensive lapse from Chelsea. Morgan Gibbs-White missed a close-range volley, while Andrey Santos dragged his effort narrowly wide after a clever pass from João Pedro.

Chelsea, without influential players like Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo, appeared subdued in the opening half. However, the London side found their rhythm after the break. Pedro Neto’s surging run down the left flank led to Josh Acheampong’s opener, and just three minutes later, Neto doubled the advantage with a sublime free-kick.
Forest’s backline crumbled under pressure. Igor Jesus watched his header from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross rebound off both the bar and post, before Reece James sealed the win with a composed finish from a half-cleared corner. Chelsea’s victory was slightly marred by a late red card shown to Malo Gusto, but it did little to dampen their celebrations.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis, visibly frustrated, left the stands before the final whistle, a sign of what was to come. The result left Forest languishing near the bottom of the table and intensified speculation over Postecoglou’s future, which was confirmed hours later when the club officially announced his dismissal.
Postecoglou’s tenure proved short and disappointing. His side managed just two draws against Burnley in the Premier League and Real Betis in the Europa League while suffering six defeats, including a heartbreaking 3-2 Carabao Cup exit to Swansea City after surrendering a stoppage-time lead.

For Chelsea, the win maintained their dominance over Forest, marking their fourth victory in five visits to the City Ground.
