The Northern States Governors’ Forum, led by its Chairman and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, has confirmed the appointment of Ezekiel Gomos as the Director-General of the Forum’s secretariat.
The announcement, conveyed in a statement issued by Yahaya’s media aide, Ismaila Misilli, reflects the Forum’s renewed determination to enhance its institutional structure and deepen collaboration among the 19 northern states in tackling the region’s major challenges.

The Forum described the creation of the Director-General position as a deliberate effort to transform the secretariat into a more dependable centre for policy alignment, unified regional action and long-term development planning. It explained that Gomos, who previously served as Secretary to the Plateau State Government, brings years of experience as a development economist and policy professional with a notable track record in governance reform, public administration, private-sector advancement and human capital development.
The Forum also noted that Gomos has held senior positions in respected organisations such as the New Nigeria Development Company and the West African Examinations Council. Beyond these roles, he has been Lead Consultant and Head of Faculty at the Jos Business School, a centre recognised for its work in entrepreneurial growth, leadership development and policy discussions.
For almost twenty years, Gomos has served as a resource person at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, contributing to the training of high-level leaders across the country in strategy, development and policymaking. His academic background includes degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of East Anglia, as well as international fellowships such as the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship at the University of Minnesota, the British Chevening Scholarship and the UNDP Fellowship at the ILO Training Centre in Turin.

The Forum added that he has also completed senior executive programmes at the Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Durham University Business School. While presenting the appointment letter, Governor Yahaya urged Gomos to leverage his broad expertise in leadership, institutional strengthening and policy management to reinforce the NSGF Secretariat as a strong engine for regional security collaboration, cooperative economic development and sustainable progress in the North.
The NSGF Chairman expressed confidence that the appointment signals a new phase of strengthened partnerships, improved coordination and more unified regional strategies in addressing the North’s most significant concerns.
